THE HARLEY-DAVIDSON® PANHEAD® ENGINE

The PANHEAD® years were from 1948 until 1965.

Harley® improved their engine design with the addition of hydraulic valve lifters which were fed oil from the rocket arms. As can be expected, the name of "panhead" came from the pan-like covers used in the areas where the knuckles used to be.
