Bob Alford
Bob Alford was transplanted to Southern California in early 1955
at the age of 5. By age 8 he had already been exposed to and "HOOKED" by "THE
CUSTOM CAR BUG" and by age 14, he was being mentored by a
few of the local "CUSTOM GURUS" in the Oxnard, Ventura
area and was already producing some of his early custom paint work,
Bob has produced quite a number of Rods and Customs along the
way including a pair of Custom Knuckleheads built by him and long
time friend Ed Breedlove, who we think is a distant cousin to Craig
Breedlove, also famous for his endeavors at "The Bonneville
Salt Flats". The
Knuckleheads were built as twins and were appropriately named "The
V TWINS", and were featured in an article and the front cover
of "Custom Bike Magazine" in August of 1982,
It was around this time that Bob was introduced to Kenny Lyon
by a mutual friend, Bill Holliday of Holliday's Performance & Harley
Davidson Repair, in Camarillo Ca. Bill was an Ultron synthetic
oil dealer and at the time was sponsoring Bob's front engine Jr.
Fuel Dragster and was also sponsoring Kenny's V4HD Bonneville bike.
When Bob & Kenny met and Bob saw "THE BIKE" for the
first time, he told Kenny that he wanted one and that someday he
would have one. Bob was asked to apply the paint job on the V4HD
bike and did so with pleasure. Shortly thereafter Bill Holliday
was killed by an "IDIOT" in a cage (car), and the last
time Bob and Kenny saw each other was at Bill's funeral. "The
Good News" is that Bob & Kenny have teamed up once again
on the "TWIN V HD BONNEVILLE" project and the rest is
and will be history.
Kenny Lyon
Kenny Lyon became interested in motorcycles at a very young age
because of his fathers love for riding and racing on and off road.
It seems as though it ran in the Lyon family blood line because
his Great Grandfather
was riding "MOTOR BIKES" (as they were called in those
days) as early as 1915, but gave up riding after having an accident
with a very early model cage (car). He decided that there were
too many cars on the road and it wasn't safe for motorbikes.
By age 6 Kenny was riding a 3 wheel Cushman scooter that his
dad had built a home made fiberglass body for and had modified
the throttle plate so as to restrict the engine to half throttle,
in hopes of keeping Kenny out of trouble. Well it wasn't long before
Kenny figured out how to by-pass the throttle stop and tune the
carb for maximum power and that's when he got into some DEEP DOO-DOO.
By the time he became a young man Kenny was starting to become
involved with a group of guys that were running at the Bonneville
Salt Flats and Kenny was to be able to learn and work along side
guys like Bob George, Waldo Stakes and "Big John" Petri.
Bob George had been running various combinations of multiple Harley
engines with the Jammer Streamliner team and had done quite well
setting some pretty fast records along the way. At some point Bob
offered Kenny the pieces necessary to build the V4HD engine for
his attempt at a record.
In 1980 Easyriders Magazine© did a feature article on the
bike titled "DOUBLE TROUBLE" and the legend was born.
Easyriders© did a follow up article on the bike in 1982 and
sometime shortly afterward the bike was stolen and missing for
about a year and by "THE GRACE OF GOD" the bike was found
almost intact and the culprits responsible for the theft went to
jail. Thanks to the assistance of Performance
Machine the Bonnenville
Racer has been rebuilt and is in the final stages of restoration
allowing it to be displayed at various motorcycle events.
Bob Alford had helped Kenny on the V4HD bike project and after
many years of being out of touch with each other Kenny Lyon and
Bob Alford have teamed up once again in an effort to set the custom
motorcycle industry on it's ear. Kenny has since given Bob all
of the pieces and parts which were developed for the Generation
II engine and along with numerous technological advancements Bob
and Kenny are about to reveal Generation III to the public.
